The Holy See, also known as the Apostolic See, is the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Pope, the Bishop of Rome, and the central governing body of the Catholic Church. It is the oldest continuous sovereign state in the world, dating back to the 4th century AD. The Holy See is a sovereign entity under international law, with diplomatic relations with over 180 countries.
