not on: ifadesinin anlamı
“not on” ifadesi, bir şeyin kabul edilemez veya uygunsuz olduğu anlamına gelir. Genellikle bir şeyin yapılmaması gerektiğini veya bir şeyin yapılmaması gerektiğini belirtmek için kullanılır. Örneğin:
- “You’re not on the guest list.” (Misafir listesinde değilsiniz.)
- “That’s not on! You can’t just take someone’s things without asking.” (Bu doğru değil! Birinin eşyalarını sormadan alamazsınız.)
- “I’m not on for that. I don’t want to go to the party.” (Buna katılmıyorum. Partiye gitmek istemiyorum.)
“not on” ifadesi ayrıca bir şeyin modası geçmiş veya artık kabul edilebilir olmadığı anlamına da gelebilir. Örneğin:
- “Bell-bottoms are not on anymore. They’re totally out of style.” (Dar paçalı pantolonlar artık moda değil. Tamamen modası geçmişler.)
- “That hairstyle is not on. It’s so last year.” (Bu saç modeli artık moda değil. Geçen yılın modası.)
“not on” ifadesinin kullanımı
“not on” ifadesi genellikle olumsuz bir anlamda kullanılır. Ancak bazen olumlu bir anlamda da kullanılabilir. Örneğin:
- “I’m not on for going to the party, but I’ll go if you really want me to.” (Partiye gitmek istemiyorum ama gerçekten gitmemi istiyorsan giderim.)
- “I’m not on for eating sushi, but I’ll try it if you insist.” (Suşi yemek istemiyorum ama ısrar edersen denerim.)
